Behind Closed Doors

Wow! This book was amazing, an intense psychological thriller that captivated me and kept me spell bound till the end. The story revolves around Grace, the wife to a charismatic successful lawyer Jack, and it is written from a first person's narrative, so we get to see everything through Grace's eyes. The central theme is that appearances can be misleading and one has to be really careful not to fall prey to the most inconceivable of evils.

From the beginning of the book, we see a happy lovely couple, perfect in everyway, they seem to have it all, a beautiful house, a successful career, and the couple are completely inseparable, but underneath lies a dark sadistic twist. Grace and Jack are not the perfect couple everyone seems to think, and their 'perfect' marriage is anything but perfect.

This was my first time reading a book by B. A. Paris, and I love her book (going to check out more of her works in the future). Her portrayal of Jack Angel, the strikingly handsome perfect lawyer, devoted husband and a dotting brother in-law to Millie, Grace's younger sister who has Down Syndrome from the beginning of the story leaves one totally unprepared for the shocking reveal about his true intentions (as a Naija girl, this one pass Yoruba demon). The language is simple, and easy to read, I rate this book a five star because I really enjoyed reading it, and if you are a fan of Gone Girl and Girl on the Train, you will love this one.

Synopsis

Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace: he has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You'd like to get to know Grace better. But it's difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are never apart. Some might call this true love. Picture this: a dinner party at their perfect home, the conversation and wine flowing. They appear to be in their element while entertaining. And Grace's friends are eager to reciprocate with lunch the following week. Grace wants to go, but knows she never will. Her friends call—so why doesn't Grace ever answer the phone? And how can she cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim? And why are there bars on one of the bedroom windows? The perfect marriage? Or the perfect lie?
